Last weekend I flew down to New Orleans for the American Society for Ethnohistory at the Hotel Monteleone. This is a picture of my lunch on Day 2 at Mr. B's (one of the famous Brennan family restaurants) on Royal Street. I had Gumbo Ya Ya (chicken gumbo because I'm afraid of some seafoods) and fried catfish fingers with a cajun remoulade (spicy mayonnaise). It came with an enormous loaf of crispy fresh french bread, which I used to sop up the gumbo. The bartender was chatty and friendly, as well as an old man sitting at the opposite end of the bar from me. "Once you start on the bread, you can't stop!" he jokingly warned. But he was right. It was delicious.
