An alleyway off Dauphin St. in Mobile, where I stayed last weekend for the South Eastern College Art Conference (aka SECAC). It was a bit of a rainy, muggy weekend, sadly, but I did get to try Hurricane Brewing's Black Jack for $0.75 during a soggy happy hour, with catfish po'boy and some pretty great fries. The next night I ate battered and fried tomatillos at a taqueria/sushi bar, and wandered into the Mobile Arts Council's silent auction and "whodunit". The artworks were displayed without any signatures or identifying features of the artists, and gallery attendees bid on them. I chatted with a nice Japanese woman named Satomi, whose art was for sale (but I never learned which was hers). Her friend, a weaver, did recommend that I visit a yarn store in NYC called Habu if I get the chance.
